My name is Richard O'Connor. I am a family man, living with my wife, daughters and grandson in Shortlanesend, near Truro, Cornwall. I have a background in engineering, and have worked in the construction industry since 2004. I have completed an apprenticeship in earth building and lime plastering, and run a successful decking & fencing business. Prior to this I spent many years working with vulnerable people.
I have always enjoyed making and fixing things. I get a great deal of satisfaction from fostering an idea in the back of my mind, allowing it to grow and develop, to making it real, tangible and functioning. In between decking and fencing jobs, I have tried to find time to develop and create some of my ideas and designs.
I enjoy recycling unwanted or surplus to requirement items. Ideally preventing things from going to landfill, or some beautiful wood going up in smoke on a bonfire. I like to re-purpose items and create unique, one-off, hand made items, that are aesthetically pleasing whilst remaining practical and functioning.

As most of the raw materials such as the wood and jars/bottles are essentially free, we have always planned to make a donation to a nominated charity. We have chosen The Cinnamon Trust as this year's charity.
